FIELD HOCKEY EQUIPMENT INFO

All girls need the following equipment to play field hockey:

  1. Shin guards
  2. Cleats (soccer)
  3. Mouth guard molded to their mouth
  4. Field Hockey Stick
  5. Eye Protection (Grades 3-8 only)

There are many places to go to buy this equipment from a local sporting goods store to specialty stores.  We recommend specialty stores because they can size your daughter for the proper sized stick.

In our local area we have:

Sticks N' Flicks
109 E. Main Street
Macungie, PA  18062

We love Longstreth but it is a little drive.  This place is a candy shop for field hockey players!  You can also order online.

Longstreth
28 Wells Road
Parker Ford, PA 19457
800-545-1329 or 610-495-7022

Want to shop at a local store but not sure of a stick height to buy for your daughter?

If your child is a beginner, there is no need to spend more than $50 on a stick.  We recommend wood for beginners but a light composite is also fine.  It is ok to buy a stick a 1/2 inch to 1 inch bigger than they need.  I do not recommend exceeding this rule especially for a beginner.

If your daughter is the following heights, the following is a good reference for starting to size your daughter for a stick:

ESTIMATED STICK SIZES
4'0" and under............... 28" stick
4'1" to 4'3".................... 30" stick
4'4" to 4'6".................... 32" stick
4'7" to 5'0".................... 34" stick
5'1" to 5'3".................... 35" stick
5'4" to 5'6".................... 36"/36.5" stick
5'7" to 5'9".................... 37"/37.5" stick
> 5'10"......................... 38" stick

It's important to buy a stick that feels good and that is sized properly.  Unfortunately, until your daughter stops growing, she will outgrow her stick each season or annually.
