Our Program

Since our inception in 2011, we are proud to consistently grow our enrollments through clinics, spring skills and drills, and the fall travel season. Practices include ball control, spacing & positioning, passing, receiving, elimination skills, channeling, defensive tactics, scoring drills, and conditioning. We focus on all aspects of the sport which also includes learning the rules of the game in scrimmage play either through games with other youth associations or through intramural play. We also focus on sportsmanship and learning how to be a good teammate.

Families of Grades 3-6 are expected to volunteer at least 4 hours for SPYA Field Hockey during the season. There is a $50 fee at registration if you wish to opt out of volunteering, but please consider donating your time to this great program! Volunteer options include coaching, field lining, and working at the SPYA PlayDay on Sunday, October 7th.

Fields
Field Hockey practices are on varied surfaces. We play on grass, turf, and an indoor turf. We do this to provide the girls with experience on different playing surfaces. This enhances their skills and ability to play the sport. Fees for indoor and turf are included in the registration fee. Field location information can be found under the FIELDS tab of this website.

Equipment Requirements
Grades K-1 will be provided with a stick for use during practices. Players are required to provide shin guards, mouth guard, and cleats for grass play and sneakers for indoor play.

Grades 2-6 will need to provide their own stick, eyegear, mouthguard, shin guards, cleats for outdoor or turf shoes for indoor/turf play.

More information about equipment and purchasing can be found on the FIELD HOCKEY EQUIPMENT Tab of this website.
